If you’ve been following the news, you’ve heard about the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday, January 12. At this point, authorities are calculating that up to 50,000 people died in the earthquake and its aftermath. Relief agencies from around the world are hurrying to the scene to provide aid, medical care, water, food, and basic needs for the survivors, many of whom are homeless.

Haiti was already a very impoverished nation, the poorest in the western hemisphere, and its people have suffered four tropical storms or hurricanes in the last two years, so the country is ill-equipped to deal with such a devastating loss of life and property. This will make rebuilding all the more difficult.
Please pray for the people of Haiti, for the comfort of those who have lost loved ones; for the sick and injured to find relief and the care they need; against outbreaks of disease due to unsanitary conditions; for the children who have lost parents; for those who lost homes and their livelihood. Please pray that the supplies being sent from abroad will arrive quickly, and for those who have joined in the relief effort, that their efforts will go far in bringing help to the people, and that they will have the grace and endurance to work in such sad, overwhelming circumstances with so many people hurting and devastated. And most of all, please pray for the Lord to heal the hearts of the Haitian people, and that many will turn to Jesus and find comfort and faith in Him.
Your prayers will make a difference.
When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I will not forsake them (Isa.41:17).
